Song of the Bay is the story of the San Francisco Bay Area in poetry. It distills themes and ideas from my previous works and life experiences into verse. This collection of 51 poems and 40 haikus is arranged into eight chapters, with each building upon the last to form an integrated whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Experience the history of the Bay, Bay Area mythology, the nostalgia of post-World War II culture as experienced by me personally, the promise and challenges of today’s society, and a future shaped in part by what is happening right now from San Francisco to Silicon Valley.
In addition to the range of themes the collection presents, I explore various poetic styles appropriate to the subject matter, including sonnets, villanelles, customized rhythm and meter, and free verse.
I have submitted both the complete manuscript and individual poems to various magazines and contests. I intend to publish the collection independently by the beginning of October (unless, of course, someone else does!).
